Apparently he had a cousin named Terry who migrated to Australia who inspired a few songs. But I'm with you Terrence Stamp and Julie Christie were the essence of 60s cool and this song does have a cinematic feel, and those descending chords- you can feel the chill of evening coming in.

Ray still holds that he was not writing about Terry Stamp and Julie Christie. It makes sense that he would write about two specific people but give them two random names (or the names of a famous couple) to either hide their identities or because he didn't know them.
